Reporting a safeguarding concern

If you suspect you or someone you know is at risk of or experiencing abuse or neglect, please report it now. Don't assume that someone else is doing something to help. Safeguarding is everybody's business.

The online forms below can be used to report concerns about adults at risk of or experiencing abuse or neglect in Portsmouth local authority area only.

Adult safeguarding concerns are reviewed and screened by social care staff during office working hours. Our office working hours are:

• Monday - Thursday 8:30am - 5pm

• Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm

Concerns are not screened outside of office hours. If you need urgent assistance from social care outside of office hours call 0300 555 1373. If you think an adult or child is at immediate risk of harm you must call 999.

What happens when I report a concern?

When you report a concern to Adult Social Care, we will:

What happens when I report a concern?

When you report a concern to Adult Social Care, we will:

• Listen to you and take your concerns seriously

• Make enquiries about the concerns you have raised

• Consider the views and wishes of the adult at risk. This may involve talking directly to them, or supporting them with an advocate (someone to represent them) if they need one

• Talk to other agencies that might need to be involved e.g., care homes, police, GP, other social workers

• Refer the person to another agency for specialist support if required

• Decide on the best way to keep the person safe now, and in the future

• Support the adult to live their life the way they want, free from harm
